John Milton

JOHN MILTON (1608-1674) was born in Bread Street, London on 9 December 1608. He was a well known Puritan poet of the 17″ century. It is widely acknowledged that he lost his eye-sight but developed his insight to the maximum. He composed L’ Allegro and IL Penseroso (1632) Comus (1634). and Lycidas (1637). His great epic poems Paradise Lost (1667) and Paradise Regained along with the play Samson Agonistes were his highly thoughtful and everlasting creations. He was known for his grand style.
“On His Blindness” is a Petrarchan sonnet. The opening eight lines are called ‘octave’ whereas the concluding six lines are called ‘sister. This sonner deals with his mental condition when he was deprived of his eye-sighi.
जान मिल्टन (1608-1674) का जन्म लंदन के बेड स्ट्रीट में 9 दिसम्बर 1608 को हुआ था। वे सतरहवी सदी के जाने-माने कट्टर धार्मिक कवि थे। वह स्वीकृत सत्ल है। कि वे देख नहीं सकते थे परन्तु उनकी अन्तदीष्ट अत्यधिक विकसित थी। उन्होंने। L Allegro और IL Penseroso (1632), Comus (1634) और Lycidas (1637) की रचना की। उनके महान महाकाव्य Paradise Lost (1667) और Paradise Regained, उनकी रचना Samson Agonistes के साथ, उनकी ऊँची, विचारशील और दीर्धकालिक रचनाएँ थीं। वे अपनी शानदार शैली के लिए जाने जाते थे।
_ ‘On His Blindness’ चौदह पंक्तियों की एक कविता है। शुरू को आठ पंक्तियों को अष्टक कहा जाता है जबकि निष्कर्ष के छः पक्तियों को पष्टाष्टक कहा जाता है। यह कविता उनकी मानसिक दशा को दर्शाती है क्योकि वे अपनी आँखों से वंचित थे।

ON HIS BLINDNESS
When I consider how my light is spent
Ere half my days, in this dark world and wide,
And that one talent, which is death to hide,
Lodged with me useless, though my soul more bent
To serve therewith my Maker, and present
My true account, lest He, returning, chide;
Doth God exact day-labour, light denied?’
I fondly ask: but Patience, to prevent
That murmur, soon replies, ‘God doth not need
Either man’s work, or His own gifts; who best
Bear His mild yoke, they serve Him best; His state
Is kingly: thousands at His bidding speed,
And post o’er land and ocean without rest;
They also serve who only stand and wait.

‘वह बड़बड़ाकर जवाब देता है ईश्वर को आदमी के काम या उसके लिए (ईश्वर के लिए) उपहार की आवश्यकता भी है। जो वह शांत जुआ अपने । पास रखता है। वह उसे अच्छी तरह सेवा करते हैं। उसका पद राजा जैसा है। उसके आदेश पर हजारों दौड़ते हैं, और बिना आराम के उसका आदेश जमीन और समुद्र तक पहुंचाते हैं। वे उसकी भी सेवा करते हैं जो खड़ा रहते है और इंतजार करते हैं।
