BEAT THE CLOCK
पाठ का परिचय – ‘बीट द क्लॉक’ वैसे छात्रों के लिए बहुत उपयोगी पाठ है जो अपने अध्ययन में रुचि रखते हैं। यह छात्रों को सलाह देता है कि अध्ययन के लिए समय बहुत कीमती चीज है । यह भी सलाह देता है कि बहुत-से समय अपव्ययी भी हैं जो उचित व्यवस्था तथा नियोजन और नियंत्रण से दूर किए जा सकते हैं।
Rimjhim assured, “Don’t worry mom I just have two lessons to do, it’ll take no time. Tomorrow’s exam is a piece of cake.” It was just 6 pm and as she sat down to study the phone bell rang. After a marathon yapping sessions Rimjhim realised the time was 7.30 pm. Promising not to take any more calls, she sat down to study but couldn’t find her notepad. Another half an hour down the drain! By then it was dinner time. And by the time Rimjhim finally sat down to study it was already 9.00 pm, just an hour to go before bedtime.
Are you too bitten by the time-wasting bug? Then may be it’s time to take charge of your time and not let time-wasters take over. To get the most from all you do, you need to be in control of your time.
वाक्यार्थ—रिमझिम ने विश्वास दिलाया, “मॉम चिन्ता नहीं करो, मुझे केवल दो पाठ करना है, इसमें समय नहीं लगेगा। कल की परीक्षा पूए का टुकड़ा है।” यह ठीक छः बजे शाम का समय था और ज्यों ही वह पढ़ने बैठी फोन की घंटी बजी। लंबे समय तक जोर-जोर से बात करने के बाद रिमझिम ने महसूस किया कि शाम का 7.30 हो चुका था। और दूसरा कोई फोन नहीं लेने का वादा करते हुए, वह पढ़ने बैठ गयी
किन्तु नोटपैड नहीं खोज सकी। दूसरा आधा घंटा भी नष्ट हो गया। तब तक खाने का समय हो गया। और जब तक रिमझिम अन्तिम रूप से पढ़ने बैठी तब तक का 9 हो चुका था, बिछावन पर जाने के ठीक एक घंटा पहले।
क्या आप भी समय नष्ट करने की आदत से घिरे हैं? तो भले ही यह समय आपका अपने कार्यभार संभालने का हो, समय नष्ट करनेवाले को हावी नहीं होने दें। जो सब आप करते हैं उसमें अधिकतम पाने के लिए आवश्यकता है समय पर आपका नियंत्रण।
The Proper organisation and planning can help avoid wasting time. Spend a few minutes daily to chart a system for your notes, homework, etc. Make sure you write notes in the right notebook to avoid wasting time in looking for them. If you keep your notes neatly and leave space for extra notes to be written later, you could avoid rewriting them, unless you use that as a form of revision.
Telephone calls are another time-wasters. It will help if you set a particular time to speak over the phone. Request your friends to call you up only then. If you are in between a chore, request your folks and servants to tell the caller you’ll call later. But make sure you call up after the task, lest you have an upset friend the next day.

टेलीफोन का बुलावा अन्य समय-नष्टकर्ता है। अगर आप फोन पर बात करने के लिए खास समय तय करें तो यह आपका मददगार होगा। अपने दोस्तों से उसी समय फोन करने का आग्रह करें। यदि आप किसी दैनिक काम में लगे हैं तो अपने करीबी लोगों से कॉल करनेवाले की जानकारी देने का आग्रह करें, जिन्हें आप बाद में फोन करेंगे। लेकिन पक्का कर ले कि आप शाम के बाद फोन करेंगे, नहीं तो अगले दिन आपके दोस्त नाराज हो जाएंगे।
Try to keep your study table clutter-free. Have a fixed place for your textbooks, notebooks, diary and stationery. Also keep clearing your desk off all rough notes, old magazines, etc. This way you won’t have to waste time rummaging through a debris before finding what you need.
Be firm about not letting other things interrupt you – either stopping your train of thought, or distracting you. Learn to say “no” when needed.Find your own ways of being polite but firm – good friends will surely understand.
Prioritise your tasks. While it is good to list out your tasks and make a to-do list, if you find you are not in the right mood to do a particular task, take up something else instead and then go back to it. Battling with a task when your mind is elsewhere just takes up time without getting the work! done.
Do not spend too much time on trivial things; work with the larger picture in mind. Trivial detailing and tasks tend to be major time wasters.
So get going, do your work but avoid these time wasters.
वाक्यार्थ_अपने अध्ययन मेज को अस्त-व्यस्तता से दर रखे। अपनी व्यपस्तके, कॉपियाँ, डायरी और लेखन सामग्री को निश्चित स्थान रखें । रफ नोट पुरानी पत्रिकाएँ इत्यादि से भी अपनी मेज को साफ रखें। इस तरह आपको आवश्यक चीज पाने से पहले कचरे में भटकने की परेशानी नहीं होगी। / ___किसी दूसरी चीज को बाधा पैदा करने से रोकना पक्का कर ले-आपकी विचारधारा की गाड़ी को रोकते हुए या आपको भटकते हुए। जब आवश्यकता हो ‘नहीं’ कहना सीखें। नम्र किन्तु दृढ़ होने के अपने रास्ते बना लें-अच्छे दोस्त अवश्य समझेगे। ____ अपने कामों की प्राथमिकताएँ तय करें। जबकि अपने कामों को छाँटना और करनेवाले कामों की सूची बना लेना अच्छा है, यदि आप पाते हैं कि आप किसी खास * काम को करने के मिजाज में नहीं हैं, उसके बदले में कुछ और करें और तब वापस पिछला काम करें । जब आपका मन कहीं और हो तब किसी काम से भिड़ना काम सम्पन्न हुए बिना केवल समय लेता है।
मामूली/तुच्छ चीजों पर अत्यधिक समय खर्च नहीं करें, मस्तिष्क में बड़ी तसवीर लेकर काम करें । तुच्छ विस्तार और काम प्रमुख समय-नाशक का रुझान रखते हैं।
