SHE LIVED HER DREAM
पाठ का परिचय- ‘शी लव्ड हर ड्रीम’ पाठ हमें याद दिलाता है कि कैसे देश की एक महिला ने दुनिया में कुछ शानदार सफलता प्राप्त की । कल्पना चावला ।। में पंजाब इंजीनियरिंग कॉलेज का प्रथम महिला वैज्ञानिक अभियन्ता बनी और अपने और अपने उत्साह के कारण वह बाद में एक अन्तरिक्षयात्री बनी ।
The whole world was excited as Kalpana Chawla was to return from the space. People were planning to celebrate her return on February 2003, but the return never happened, as the “Columbia Shuttle’ broke apart, just 16 minutes before it was to land in Florida. Many hoped for a miracle. Alas! Kalpana died after spending a month in the space, travelling over 6.5 million miles in space and in 252 orbits. She nonetheless lived her dream.
Kalpana Chawla was born in a small town Karnal in Haryana, in a traditional middle class family. The youngest of four children, Kalpana studied at Tagore School, but was different from other children. Her love for the skies and space began when she was a little girl in Haryana. Her school projects and papers were about stars, planets and the outer space. Teachers often found her sketching airplanes instead of playing with her friends. While her businessman father supported her when she joined the flying club, he was shocked when she chose flying as a career. He wanted her to become a doctor. Kalpana managed to win over her father and her family to become Punjab Engineering College’s first woman aeronautical engineer in 1982.
वाक्यार्थ—कल्पना चावला अन्तरिक्ष से वापस होनेवाली थी इसलिए सारी दुनिया उत्साहित थी। लोग फरवरी 2003 को उसकी वापसी का उत्सव मनाने की योजना बना रहे थे, किन्तु वह वापसी कभी नहीं हुई, क्योंकि फ्लोरिडा में उतरने के ठीक 16 मिनट पहले ‘कोलंबिया शटल टूट गया। बहुतों ने चमत्कार की आशा की थी। खेद है। अन्तरिक्ष में एक महीना बिताने, अन्तरिक्ष में 6.5 मिलियन माइल और 252 कक्षाओं में यात्रा करने के बाद कल्पना मर गयी। फिर भी उसने अपना सपना सच किया। कल्पना चावला हरियाणा के एक छोटे शहर करनाल में पारंपरिक मध्यवर्गीय परिवार में जन्मी थीं। चार बच्चों में सबसे छोटी कल्पना ने टैगोर स्कूल में पढा, किन्तु वह दूसरे बच्चों से भिन्न थी। आकाश तथा अन्तरिक्ष के प्रति उसका प्रेम तब शुरू हुआ जब वह हरियाणा में एक छोटी बच्ची थी। उसके स्कूल की परियोजना तथा कागजात तारे, ग्रह और बाहरी अन्तरिक्ष के बारे में होते थे। अपने दोस्तों के साथ खेलने के . बदले शिक्षक उसे अक्सर हवाई जहाज के रेखाचित्र बनाते देखते थे। हालाँकि जब वह फ्लाइंग क्लब में शामिल हुई तब उसके व्यापारी पिता ने उसका सहयोग किया, जब उसने उड़ान को अपना भविष्य चुना तब वे दुखी हुए। वे उसे डॉक्टर बनाना चाहते थे। कल्पना ने अपने पिता तथा परिवार को 1982 में पंजाब इंजीनियरिंग कॉलेज का प्रथम महिला विमानन इंजीनियर होने के लिए अपने पक्ष में कर लिया। She lived her dream in Hindi
Her parents wanted her to get married and settle down. So, they strongly opposed her when she wanted to go to the US for postgraduate studies. Kalpana won again. She got her Master’s degree from the University of Texas, Arlington and a Doctorate from the University of Colorado. It was there that she met her husband, French flying instructor and aviation writer, Jean-Pierre Harrison.
After doing her Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering in 1988, she worked as a research scientist at NASA, Ames Research Centre, California. She became one of the 19 persons selected from 2062 applicants to become an astronaut. In March 1995, she reported to the Johnson Space Centre.
वाक्यार्थ—उसके माता-पिता उसे शादी कर घर बसाना चाहते थे। इसलिए जब वह स्नातकोत्तर अध्ययन के लिए यू. एस. जाना चाही, उन्होंने उसका कठोर विरोध किया। कल्पना ने फिर जीत हासिल की। उसने मास्टर की डिग्री टेक्सास विश्वविद्यालय आरलिंगटन से तथा डॉक्टर की उपाधि कोलोरैडो विश्वविद्यालय से प्राप्त की। वहीं उसे उसका पति फ्रांसीसी उड़ान प्रशिक्षक और विमानन संबंधी लेखक जीन-पाइरी हैरिसन मिला।
1988 में एयरोस्पेस इंजीनियरिंग में पी-एच.डी. करने के बाद उसने कैलिफोर्निया के एम्स रिसर्च सेंटर नासा में शोध विज्ञानी के रूप में काम किया। अन्तरिक्ष यात्री होने के लिए 2062 आवेदकों में वह 19वाँ चुमी हुई .व्यक्ति थीं। मार्च 1995 में उसने जॉनसन स्पेस सेंटर को रिपोर्ट किया। She lived her dream in Hindi
On 19 November 1997, she made her first flight in an American space shuttle for fifteen days. It took her only 90 minutes to circle the earth! Kalpana and her husband loved aerial aerobatics, hiking, back packing and reading.
Though she accepted American citizenship, Kalpana didn’t forget her home. Every year she paid for the trip of two talented children from her town to visit NASA. She paid for the education of many girls, too. The government of Tamil Nadu instituted the Kalpana Chawla Award to be given annually on the Independence Day for her bravery and service. Now Kalpana is no more but her achievements shall continue to inspire people to work hard to realise their dream.
वाक्यार्थ-19 नवम्बर, 1997 को वह पन्द्रह दिनों के लिए अमेरिकी अतारक्ष शटल म अपनी पहली उडान भरी। उसे पथ्वी के चारों ओर घमने में मात्र 90 मिनट लामा व उसके पति को वायवीय कलाबाजी पैदल यात्रा तैयारी तथा अध्ययन अच्छा लगा।
हालाकि उसने अमेरिकी नागरिकता ग्रहण की कल्पना अपने घर को नहीं भूली । हरक वर्ष वह अपने शहर में नासा घमने के लिए दो मेधावी बच्चों को यात्रा के लिए खर्च देती थी। उसने अनेक लडकियों की पढ़ाई के लिए भी खर्च दी। तमिलनाडु सरकार ने उसका बहादुरा और सेवा के नाम पर हरेक वर्ष कल्पना चावला अवार्ड स्वतंत्रता दिवस पर दना शुरू किया। अब कल्पना नहीं है, किन्त उसकी उपलब्धियाँ अपने सपनों को महसूस करने के लिए कठिन मेहनत करने को लोगों को प्रेरित करेगी । She lived her dream in Hindi
